Commerce
Annual
Banquet
set
March 29
at
School

The
Hawkins
Chamber
of
Commerce
has
selected
Thursday,
March 29
as the
date for
the
organization’s
annual
banquet.
This
year’s
event
will be
held at
the new
cafetorium
on the
campus
of the
Hawkins
Independent
School
District.
The date
and
location
was
confirmed
at the
Tuesday,
February
5
meeting
of the
Chamber.
Members
also
heard
reports
on from
several
of the
sub-committees
working
on the
banquet.
It was
reported
that the
popular
three-meat
barbeque
from
Smokehouse
BBQ
caterers
would
again be
featured
as the
entrée
at a
cost of
$6.95
($7.95
with
desert).
Newly-elected
Chamber
President
Keith
Ridgeway
was not
present.
He has
recently
been
promoted
to a new
position
with
Brookshires
Corporation
and had
some
pressing
duties.
He
pledged
to
combine
civic
and
corporate
responsibilities
with the
help of
the
other
officers
and
members
of the
organization.
Meetings
of the
organization
traditionally
held
monthly
and on
the
first
Monday,
may be
changed
to meet
Ridgeway’s
schedule.
Mayor
Sam
Bradley
advised
of plans
to
restore
and
repaint
the
water
tower.
He said
the work
would
take
from
30-to-90
days to
complete
and will
start
early
this
spring.
He
called
upon the
Chamber
to
assist
in
getting
out the
word
about no
outside
irrigation
or
unnecessary
water
consumption
and no
outside
burning.
