Meeting
in
special
session
Thursday,
January
17,
trustees
of the
Hawkins
Independent
School
District
voted
4-to-3
to not
extend
the
contract
of
Superintendent
Dan
Rose.
Virtually
all of
the
four-hour
special
meeting
was
spent in
“Executive
Session,”
which is
closed
to the
public
and
media.
The
single
purpose
of the
meetng
was a
discussion
of the
evaluations
of the
superintendent
by
Trustees.
As a
personnel
matter,
trustees
are
permitted
to hold
such
evaluation
discussions
in
closed
session.
Near the
conclusion
of this
closed
meeting,
it was
opened
for a
brief
public
session,
at which
time,
Trustee
Clayton
Atteberry
made the
motion
to “not
extend
Rose’s
contract.”
The
motion,
seconded
by Wende
Haney,
passed
with the
support
of
Steven
Holland
and
Edwin
Simmons.
Trustees
Dr.
Shane
Bogard,
Dr. Bill
Holmes
and Ed
Tunnel
voted
against
the
motion.
Rose was
hired as
superintendent
of the
Hawkins
Independent
School
District
in
January
2004.
Trustees
Simmons
and
Tunnel
were
board
members
serving
at that
time.
Rose’s
curent
contract
expires
June 30,
2010.
The next
regularly
scheduled
meeting
of the
HISD
Board of
Trustees
is set
for
Monday,
March 3
at 7
p.m.
Meetings
of the
board
may be
held
with
72-hour
advance
public
notice.
