Firefighters
from six
local
volunteer
fire
departments
and the
Texas
Forest
Service
battled
a
massive
brush
fire
that
also
destroyed
a
residence
in
southeastern
Wood
County
this
past
week.
More
than 60
firemen
from the
volunteer
fire
departments
in
Hawkins,
Holly
Lake,
Hainesville,
Quitman
and Big
Sandy
waged a
five-to-six
hour
fight on
several
fronts
of the
fire
which
was
driven
through
dried
brush
and
ground
cover
off of
FM-3425.
Heavy
dozers
from the
Texas
Forest
Service
cleared
fire
breaks
along
the
perimeters
of the
fire
that
jumped a
county
road at
one
point.
The fire
also
consumed
a home
within
the
scorched
property.
The home
reportedly
was not
occupied.
A

to be
the

of the
fire.

60-sandwiches
and five
cases of
