Six
resign
from
Sheriff’s
office;
Precinct-2
selects
used
dump
truck

Meeting
Thursday,
March 20
in
regular
session,
Wood
County
Commissioners
accepted
six
resignations
from
Sheriff
Dwaine
Daugherty’s
office
and
approved
the
purchase
of a
used
dump
truck
for
precinct-2.
Resigning
from
their
duties
at the
Sheriff’s
office
were
Captain
Joel
Blair,
and
Patrol
Sergeants
Michael
Taylor
and
Randal
Lain Jr.
Also
resigning
were
Deputies
Terry
Bevill
and Gary
Pennington
and
Jailer
Maggie
Calvert.
Three
positions
at the
Sheriff’s
Office
were
filled
by new
hires.
Mark
Smith is
a new
deputy,
while
Samantha
Jackson-Blake
and
Terri
Spradley
are
newly-hired
jailers.
Timothy
Baucom
was
promoted
from
deputy
to
replace
Taylor
as a
patrol
sergeant.
Bids
were
opened
for the
purchase
of a
used
dump
truck
for
Precinct-2.
Halman
Trucks
and
Trailers,
Tyler,
submitted
the
winning
bid
which
was for
a 2000
International
with a
10-foot
Warren
bed.
Cost of
the unit
is
$23,762.
A second
bid for
a 2004
International
was
submitted
by Hall
GMC,
Tyler
for
$31,670.
The
court
also
approved
advertising
for bids
for a
used
dump
truck
for
Precinct-4.
Several
formerly
private
roads
were
accpeted
into
county
maintenance.
Included
are:
5300,
5301 and
5302 in
the Star
Ranch
subdivision
in
Precint-1.
The
roads
will be
re-numbered
1300,
1301 and
1302.
Commissioners
also
approved
taking
PR-5862
serving
Sunset
Bay
Estates
into
county
maintenance.
It will
be
re-numbered
CR-1862.
In other
action,
the
Commissioners
approved:

Payment
of
claims.
-
Payroll.
-
Employee/dependent
health
claims.
-
Standard
interlocal
agreement
with the
Winnsboro
ISD.
-
Interlocal
Emergency
Management
agreement
with
Alba
(($693),
Hawkins
($2,136),
Mineola
($7,260),
Quitman
($3,189),
Winnsboro
($5,617.50)
and
Yantis
($523.50).
- Annual
tax
exemption
for Lake
Country
Playhouse.

Interlocal
agreement
for tax
collection,
Quitman
Hospital
District,
$1,500
plus two
percent
of
collections.
-
Security
system
upgrades
for
courthouse
and JP
offices.
-
Disaster
recovery
service
for
Clerk’s
Office
through
Suddenlink.
-
Designating
Sheriff’s
Office
as
rabies
control
authority.
