Meeting
in
regular
session
May
4th,
the
Wood
County
Commissioners
Court
dispatched
a
15-item
agenda
in
approximately
50
minutes.
During
the
meeting,
which
was
chaired
by
Wood
County
Judge
Bryan
Jeanes,
commissioners
approved
a
presentation
of
the
FY2005
financial
statements,
from
the
firm
of
Patillo,
Brown
&
Hill,
LLP,
as
well
as a
TxDOT
State
Assisted
Airport
Development
Grant
for
the
Wood
County
Airport,
among
several
other
agenda
items.
Chris
Pruitt
told
the
commissioners
his
firm’s
auditors
report
gave
the
county’s
FY2005
financial
report
“an
unqualified
or,
clean
opinion.”
He
explained
that
this
opinion
means
that
the
firm
found
the
county’s
financial
statement
to
be
“free
of
material
mistakes.”
Pruitt
also
reminded
the
commissioner’s
that
required
reporting
on
benefits
other
than
pensions
will
begin
in
2009.
He
added
than
this
will
need
an
actuarial
study.
County
Auditor
Becky
Burford
noted
that
compiling
liability
costs
would
be a
challenge
and
would
cost
some
added
money.
She
also
said
2009
is
not
really
that
far
off.
Commissioners
also
approved
a
Texas
Department
of
Transportation
State
Assisted
Airport
Development
Grant
for
the
Wood
County
Airport.
The
project
is
described
as
construction
services
to
rehabilitate
and
mark
Runway
18-36;
rehabilitate
a
hangar
access
taxiway;
rehabilitate
the
taxiway;
construct
a
partial
parallel
taxiway;
rehabilitate
the
apron’
install
culverts
in
the
hangar
area
and
install
exit
and
hold
signs.
The
estimated
cost
is
approximately
$1,566,000
and
the
state’s
financial
share
will
be
about
$1,409,400.
The
county’s
share
will
be
about
$156,000.
Bids
for
two
used
dump
trucks
from
two
Tyler
firms
were
opened.

Commissioner
Roy
Shipp
said
he
would
have
a
look
at
the
trucks
available
and
meet
on
May
8th
with
a
decision.
A
motion
was
made
and
passed
to
table
the
agenda
item.
Commissioners
also
approved:
• A
line
item
transfer
into
temporary
salaries
for
the
District
Attorney’s
Office.
• A
line
item
transfer
in
travel
for
the
Veteran’s
Service
Office
•
The
report
from
Constable
Bowser.
• A
copier
contract
for
the
County
Clerk’s
Office.
• An
amendment
to
the
ORCA
Grant
#724096
changing
the
contract
period.
• An
APET/SPCA
Service
Contract.
$2,500
will
go
to
APET
to
provide
low-cost
spaying/neutering
to
Wood
County
residents.
• A
resolution
to
submit
the
Tobacco
Compliance
Grant
to
the
State
Comptroller’s
Office.
This
provides
funds
to
the
sheriff’s
department
to
conduct
stings
to
be
sure
retailers
are
in
compliance
with
the
rules
regarding
sales
of
tobacco
products
to
minors.
In
the
personnel
area,
John
G.
Mahoney
will
fill
the
jailer
position
left
by
David
A.
Hayes
and
Willie
Earl
McQueen
will
assume
the
temporary
position
of
lake
keeper
at
County
Lake
#1.
