Coates sentenced to 15 years on June 20th

On June 20th in the 402nd Judicial District Court of Wood County, a case against Ted Bryan Coates, 33, of Quitman, was set for jury trial.

Following jury selection, the defendant changed his plea and Judge Timothy Boswell found him guilty of the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

Because of his significant criminal history, Mr. Coates was exposed to second degree felony punishment. At the sentencing on the 20th, Judge Boswell sentenced Coates to 15 years imprisonment, a $1,000 fine and repayment of restitution to Quitman Ford.

This case was prepared for prosecution by Officer Scott Price of the Quitman Police department. The D.A.’s office credited Price’s “excellent work” which led to the conviction.

The state was represented by District Attorney Jim Wheeler and Assistant D.A. Angela Converse.
