improvements
OK’d;
Code of
Conduct,
handbooks
adopted

At a
special
meeting
of the
Hawkins
Independent
School
Board,
on
Tuesday,
July 24,
trustees
approved
a shared
cost
agreement
on
upgrades
and
improvements
to
parking
lot
repair
and
repaving
projects
and
approved
the
2007-2008
editions
of the
Student
Code of
Conduct
and the
Faculty
Handbook
and
Faculty
Handbook.
The
council
also
approved
the
hiring
of a
teacher/coach
on a
one-year
probationary
contract.
The
trustees
approved
a plan
to
invest
$94,900
of
school
bond
interest
earnings
in
upgraded
plans
for the
parking
lot and
some of
the
drives
into and
out of
campus.
The
contractor
providing
the
construction
and
renovation
services
funded
by the
$15,000,000
bond
issue
passed
in
December
2005
will
absorb
$49,691
of the
costs
for
these
improvements
since
truck
and
heavy
equipment
movement
has
damaged
some of
the
parking
lots and
drives
on the
Hawkins
ISD
campus.
As a
result
the
student
parking
lot at
the
north
end of
the
campus
near the
football
field
will be
repaired
where
necessary
and
top-coated
with two
inches
of new
asphalt.
The
south
parking
lot near
the
elementary
campus
will
also be
repaired
and
top-coated.
Sections
of
roadways
leading
to the
parking
lots
will
also be
repaired
and
top-coated.
Trustees
also
reviewed
and
approved
the
proposed
Student
Code of
Conduct,
the
Student
Handbook
and
Faculty
Handbook
for the
2007-2008
school
year.
Most of
the
changes
were
recommended
by the
Texas
Association
of
School
Boards
to
assure
compliance
with
changes
to the
state
laws
enacted
by the
recent
session
of the
Texas
legislature.
In other
action,
trustees
accepted
the
resignation
of a
math
teacher
and
hired a
Richard
Dickerson,
a
teacher/coach
on a
one-year
probationary
contract.
Trustees
are next
scheduled
to meet
Thursday,
August
16 at 7
p.m. A
special
meeting
of the
board
can be
called
with
72-hours
notice.
