HCDC
approves
bid for
new
Sports
Park
lighting
system

Meeting
in
regular
session
Tuesday,
August 7
the
board of
directors
of the
Hawkins
Community
Development
Corporation
accepted
a bid of
$31,250
for
improvements
in the
lighting
system
at the
baseball
fields
at the
Hawkins
Youth
Sports
Park.
HCDC
directors
also
approved
a
marketing/promotions
payment
of
$1,200
to the
Hawkins
Area
Chamber
of
Commerce.
The
successful
bidder
on the
lighting
project
at the
sports
park
with a
bid of
$31,250
was Mark
Turrentine
of TT&L.
Turrentine
said the
work is
expected
to take
approximately
60 days
after it
begins.
In a
related
matter,
Mayor
Sam
Bradley
reported
a quote
of $300
to
perform
an
inspection
and
treatment
program
for each
light
pole at
the
baseball
fields.
There
are 25
poles at
the
sports
park,
some of
which
have
been in
place
for
30-plus
years.
Jerry
Jones,
treasurer,
reported
a cash
balance
of
$37,969.69
for HCDC
at the
end of
July.
Gary
McKinley
of the
Wood
County
Industrial
Commission
advised
the
board of
a new
economic
development
publication
serving
East
Texas.
“Business
Images”
will be
published
annually
with the
inaugural
issue
available
in
January
2008. He
provided
board
members
with
literature
regarding
the
publication.
McKinley
also
reminded
HCDC
directors
of the
call for
tourism
development
proposals
due to
WCIC
September
27,
2007.
The next
meeting
of the
HCDC is
scheduled
for
Tuesday,
September
4 at 4
p.m. A
special
meeting
of the
board
can be
called
with
72-hours
public
notice.
