Candidate filing season begins

Candidates for county and precinct offices to be elected in the 2008 general election have begun the filing process by submitting candidate forms to the Wood County Elections Administrator and to the respective political party chairmen. These filings must be completed by January 3, 2008.

Included among those who have already filed are incumbent 402nd District Court Judge G. Timothy Boswell, incumbent Wood County Sheriff Dwaine Daugherty and incumbent Precinct-3 Commissioner Roger W. Pace.

Boswell’s is the only filing for Judge of the District Court thus far, but the race for Wood County Sheriff has drawn Daugherty and Bill Wansley, Quitman Police Chief.

In addition to the filing by Pace, the office of Precinct-3 Commissioner has drawn two other candidates, they are: Larry D. Pack, Hawkins and Dennis Sandifer, Quitman.

Precinct-3 Constable has drawn three candidates at this point, they are: Gary D. Dixon, Reginald Frost and Eileen D. Steinfield, all with Hawkins mailing addresses.

The Precinct-1 Commissioners post has already drawn five candidate filings, including Gregory Lee Elmore, Quitman; Troy Keith Gilbreath, Quitman; Gary Ovard, Quitman; Michael Lee Humphries, Golden, and Jerry “Bubba” L. Phillips, Jr., Quitman.

Carol Taylor, Quitman, has filed for Wood County Tax Assessor/Collector.
The Precinct-4 Constable office has drawn three candidate filings including incumbent Trey A. Degeurin, Julius L. Pennington and Michael R. Taylor, all with Winnsboro mailing addresses.

Stephen W. Bowser, Quitman, has filed for Precinct-1 Constable, while Edward J Shadbolt, Mineola has filed for Constable of Precinct-2.

The two major political parties will conduct primary elections in March 2008. The winners of these contests will be placed on the November 2008 general election ballot.
