begins
Candidates
for
county
and
precinct
offices
to be
elected
in the
2008
general
election
have
begun
the
filing
process
by
submitting
candidate
forms to
the Wood
County
Elections
Administrator
and to
the
respective
political
party
chairmen.
These
filings
must be
completed
by
January
3, 2008.
Included
among
those
who have
already
filed
are
incumbent
402nd
District
Court
Judge G.
Timothy
Boswell,
incumbent
Wood
County
Sheriff
Dwaine
Daugherty
and
incumbent
Precinct-3
Commissioner
Roger W.
Pace.
Boswell’s
is the
only
filing
for
Judge of
the
District
Court
thus
far, but
the race
for Wood
County
Sheriff
has
drawn
Daugherty
and Bill
Wansley,
Quitman
Police
Chief.
In
addition
to the
filing
by Pace,
the
office
of
Precinct-3
Commissioner
has
drawn
two
other
candidates,
they
are:
Larry D.
Pack,
Hawkins
and
Dennis
Sandifer,
Quitman.
Precinct-3
Constable
has
drawn
three
candidates
at this
point,
they
are:
Gary D.
Dixon,
Reginald
Frost
and
Eileen
D.
Steinfield,
all with
Hawkins
mailing
addresses.
The
Precinct-1
Commissioners
post has
already
drawn
five
candidate
filings,
including
Gregory
Lee
Elmore,
Quitman;
Troy
Keith
Gilbreath,
Quitman;
Gary
Ovard,
Quitman;
Michael
Lee
Humphries,
Golden,
and
Jerry
“Bubba”
L.
Phillips,
Jr.,
Quitman.
Carol
Taylor,
Quitman,
has
filed
for Wood
County
Tax
Assessor/Collector.
The
Precinct-4
Constable
office
has
drawn
three
candidate
filings
including
incumbent
Trey A.
Degeurin,
Julius
L.
Pennington
and
Michael
R.
Taylor,
all with
Winnsboro
mailing
addresses.
Stephen
W.
Bowser,
Quitman,
has
filed
for
Precinct-1
Constable,
while
Edward J
Shadbolt,
Mineola
has
filed
for
Constable
of
Precinct-2.
The two
major
political
parties
will
conduct
primary
elections
in March
2008.
The
winners
of these
contests
will be
placed
on the
November
2008
general
election
ballot.
