Yesterday, forty-two year old Benny Joe Hammond of Mineola, Texas, received three forty (40) year sentences for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child in an agreement reached with the Wood County District Attorney's office. Hammond must serve half of his sentence day-for-day before his eligibility for parole can be considered. He will register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
In addition, Benny Joe Hammond's felony probation was revoked, and he received the maximum twenty (20) year sentence for Arson. Detective William Burge of the Wood County Sheriff's Office prepared the case for prosecution.
