Wood County Commissioners Court
New County Map OK'd;
Rico, drug dog retires

Meeting in regular session Friday, April 3, Wood County Commissioners Court approved the printing of a new map of the county and recognized the retirement of Canine Deputy "Rico" from the Wood County Sheriff's Office.
Working with the East Texas Council of Government's 9-1-1 addressing group, commissioners have developed a new official map of
Wood County, the final draft of which was approved at the meeting. The commissioners ordered the printing of 10,000 copies of the map at a cost of $3,915 by Millet the Printer, Dallas. Special printings will made for the county's fire departments and other emergency responders.
The canine deputy, Rico, originally donated to the County by the Hawkins Police Department, has been officially retired from service. His service was recognized in a proclamation approved by the Court.
In other action the court approved:
- a two-week County payroll of $268,662.16.
- claims and paid bills totaling $196,101.56.
- employee and family health care claims of $20,971.05.
- interlocal agreement with various entities, including City of Hawkins and Hawkins ISD for use of voting equipment for May general election.
- interlocal agreements with various entities for tax collection services, including the Wood County ESD #1 (Holly Lake Volunteer Fire Department) at a cost of $900, City of Hawkins ($7,796), Hawkins Independent School District ($34,272), Harmony Independent School District ($5,452).
- interlocal agreement with the City of Yantis for mowing services.
- advertising for bids for a used diesel one-ton flatbed truck for Precinct 1 (bid opening May 14, consideration of award May 15).
No personnel actions were taken at the meeting.
The next regular meeting of the Wood County Commissioners Court will be Friday, April 17, 2009 at 10 a.m. A special meeting of the court can be called with 72-hour public notice.
