Fireworks On Lake Hawkins
"Largest Ever"
By JOHN SPARKS

Promising a "largest ever" fireworks display, the members of the Hawkins Volunteer Fire Department are inviting all area residents to Lake Hawkins on July 4. The 35-to-40 minute display will start at dusk (approximately 8:30).
The display will be directed over the lake from a launch site on the dam at the south end of the Lake. Best viewing will be from the County Park and the RV Park at the south end of dam. It will be the sixth annual fireworks event sponsored by the department for the enjoyment of the public.
Flotilla kicks off July 4th's events
The annual Lake Hawkins July 4th Patriotic Flotilla will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Participants decorate their boats, dress in costume and form a flotilla that follows a circular course around the southern end of the Lake. It can be best viewed from the southern lakeside along CR-3440 (the road serving "A Taste of Italy on the Lake" and the Lake Hawkins RV Park) or from a boat.
Organizers of the Flotilla/Fireworks event recommend that you make a day of it by watching the flotilla, enjoying the beachfront at the Park with a picnic. Vendors will be on hand with hot dogs, turkey legs and other concession items in the Park area. It is also recommended that you bring and use lots of sun screen and mosquito spray. Bring your own lawn chairs for comfort and convenience.
Viewers of the fireworks from boats will be asked to observe restricted areas marked by bouys and patrolled by Texas Parks & Wildlife personnel.
The normal fee entrance to the Lake Hawkins Park is $3.00 per person (Children six years and under are free). However, at 7 p.m. on July 4th the entrance fee is waived, but fireman will be at the gate accepting free-will donations. Parking is available at the park with overflow along CR-3440.
Those planning to dine at A Taste of Italy on Lake Hawkins on July 4th are urged to call 903 769-0600 for reservations.
