Only voters who voted in the Republican primary or who did not vote in the March election are eligible in these runoff contests. Those voting in the March primary election in the Democrat primary are not eligible to vote in the runoff.
The three candidate field for Wood County Treasurer eliminated incumbent Becky Cannon, but failed to give either challenger for the post a majority vote. Becky Burford, former County Auditor received more than 45 percent with 2,491 votes while political newcomer, Kevin Gilbreath garnered 2,093 votes, or 38.36 percent of the votes. Cannon balloted only 15 percent, or 872 votes countywide.
These two races will be determined in a runoff election to be held Tuesday, April 13 at 8 voting locations throughout the county. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Holly Lake voters and Hawkins voters will vote at the respective Fire Stations, while three voting boxes will be combined at Carroll Green Civic Center in Quitman for voting precincts 1-1, 3-1 and 4-1. In Winnsboro voting boxes 4-2 and 4-3 will be combined at the City Auditorium.
Early voting in the runoff will take place Tuesday, April 5 through Saturday, April 9 at the Wood County Courthouse.
