For the first time, I almost feel sorry for Barack Obama. The Mama Grizzlies are after him and he just can't get rid of them.
The conservative women, after years of baking cookies and raising kids, are on the warpath. First there was that Palin woman, talking about pit bulls and lipstick. I think he knew she'd be a problem from the moment he saw her. I'll bet he regularly curses John McCain for bringing her into the national spotlight. He's got Robert Gibbs calling her "uninformed" on the oil spill. Meanwhile, Gibb's boss is looking like he can't lead.
The trouble is the more contempt the gang from Chicago rains on Palin, the stronger she becomes.
Then there's this Congresswoman from Minnesota, Michelle Bachman, out on the stump with the Tea Partiers and the likes of Sean Hannity, saying she's fed up and not going to take it anymore.
Now along comes the governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, passing a law that puts immigration on the table right before the Congressional elections, darn it. Brewer wanted a meeting with Obama during her visit to Washington. He reneged, saying he would meet with her at a later date. I think he knows she is angry enough that she might bring a cast-iron skillet and slam it down on his desk.
Liberal women are so much easier to deal with. Yes, they're angry - that's part of being a liberal, but at least he could sit down over tea and petit fours and chat about pro-choice, closing Gitmo, amnesty and apologizing to the Chinese and everyone else. Tea with these right wing females might end up with lobster canapés on the Armani suit.
I'm also feeling sorry for Obama on the domestic front. Have you noticed that every time he gets out of the White House, he scarfs down chicken wings, cheeseburgers and fries? I wonder if Michelle Obama has co-opted the White House chef and Obama has to face a daily diet of arugula and grilled fish.
Meanwhile, he had to fly to California to raise funds for Babs Boxer who is facing a strong GOP headwind, including another Republican woman, Carly Fiorina, who has a greater record of accomplishment than Obama can imagine. Things don't look good for Babs, in spite of the Hollywood money he pulled in.
I think Sarah Palin, in particular, has gotten into Obama's head. I wonder if he has nightmares of her standing astride a dead moose yelling "Moose chili for everyone!" Maybe he should consult Bill Clinton for advice on dodging flying ashtrays, lamps and cookware.
A mere 15 months ago, everyone was in a hopey-changey mood, mesmerized by the fine rhetorical flourishes, the calm demeanor, the eloquent phrases. The nation would be rid of the Cowboy from Texas - such an embarrassment in the drawing rooms of Europe.
But now, in light of the oil disaster, it has become glaringly clear that Mr. Obama lacks any real leadership ability. He is not a man of action, a problem solver. His skills as a community agitator do not serve well in an executive position.
Meanwhile, the Mama Grizzlies are on the prowl and he well knows - their claws are very dangerous.
