Meeting in regular session Thursday, June 6 at Winnsboro United Methodist Church, the board of the Wood County Industrial Commission (WCIC) voted to hire a consulting firm to assist in the development of a branding initiative for economic development activities. The board also approved joining the Texas Economic Development Council for $425 and scheduled a promotions committee meeting and a budget committee meeting for June 23.
The purpose of a brand is to differentiate. The American Marketing Association defines a brand as a "name, term, symbol or design or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller, or group of sellers, and to differentiate from those of other sellers." The competitive call for proposals was won by North Star with a bid of $62,000 and $5,000 in expenses.
Membership in the Texas Economic Development Council was approved after a brief discussion of the effectiveness of the organization as a lobbying and legislative information resource.
Executive Director Gary McKinley advised the board of a Jobs Fair for all levels of job seekers at the Mineola Civic Center on July 29 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The July meeting of the Wood County Industrial Commission will be held on Thursday, July 1. Location is to be announced.
