Sheriff's Report- Period ending May 9, 2009

Due to ongoing thefts and burglaries in the county involving vehicles, homes and buildings, the Wood County Sheriff's Department is asking citizens to be aware of this problem and take extra precautions to secure their vehicles, homes and other buildings.
If you notice suspicious person(s), or vehicles, or any unusual activity, you are asked to contact the sheriff's department at 911 or 903-763-2201.
Also - a reminder to all citizens: Wood County Crime Stoppers offers a CASH reward for information that leads to the arrest of a fugitive wanted in a case. The number is 903-763-CASH. Any information given will remain anonymous. If you call, your call will be given a special reference number. You may use that number at a later date to claim a reward if your information leads to an arrest. You do NOT need to give your name.
Crime Stoppers can pay a reward up to $1,000 for information on any warrant that leads to an arrest and indictment. To view the county's eight Most Wanted fugitives, go to www.co.wood.tx.us and click on Wood County's Most Wanted.
April 29th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2504 in Mineola with regard to a burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) removed an iPod and cash from the vehicle valued at over $250. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to Hwy 80 east at Jarvis Christian College on a report of a theft on a Playstation 3. The complainant advised that unknown person(s) had removed his Playstation 3 from his dorm room. The complainant advised that he was in a pawn shop in Tyler and saw his Playstation 3.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to FM 2869 in Winnsboro with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) damaged his back door and entered his home. The complainant advised that suspect(s) stole some checks and had written several checks. The case is under investigation.
April 28th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 4645 in Quitman with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that unknown person(s) had entered the home by breaking the glass of the front door. The complainant advised that the person(s) removed food and bath items from the residence. The case is under investigation.
April 27th: Animal control was dispatched to CR 2339 in Mineola with regard to several dogs running at large on the complainant's property. The complainant's neighbor was contacted to see if the dogs belonged to them and the neighbor advised the dogs were not theirs.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 1689 in Alba with regard to theft of livestock. The complainant advised that she had a Black Angus steer in a holding pen and when she went back to check on the steer, the animal was gone. The steer was tagged and all livestock auctions have been contacted to look for the steer and the tag number. The case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to Village Trail at Holly Lake Ranch with regard to a terroristic threat call. The complainant advised that his house guest had threatened him with a pocket knife. Russell Bruce Finney was arrested for terroristic threat.
Finally, on this date, animal control was dispatched to CR 4645 in Winnsboro with regard to cruelty to animals. Deputies were advised that animals on the property were in poor condition. On contact with the owner of the animals, deputies ascertained that the animals were being nursed back to health.
April 26th: Deputies were dispatched to FM 14 south in Hawkins with regard to a criminal trespass report. Lee Roy Loughmiller was issued a criminal trespass warning.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to Mineola with regard to a stolen trailer. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) removed a homemade trailer from his residence. The case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to CR 2389 in Mineola with regard to a theft of a four-wheeler. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) removed the four-wheeler from his carport. The case is under investigation.
Finally, on this date, deputies were dispatched to the Quitman emergency room with regard to a dog bite. The complainant advised that he went over to his neighbor's residence and when he exited his vehicle, the neighbor's dog ran up to him and bit him on the right leg. The dog was quarantined for 10 days.
April 25th: Deputies were dispatched to FM 2869 in Winnsboro with regard to a report of identity theft. The complainant advised that her daughter had used her identity to make several purchases in another country. The complainant is now being contacted by several collection agencies for those items that were purchased and accounts that were opened with the complainant's identification. The case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to CR 4586 in Winnsboro with regard to an intoxicated female in the roadway. On making contact with the subject, the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage was detected. The subject had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Angela Renea Stringer was arrested for public intoxication.
Finally, on this date, deputies were dispatched to Hwy 37 north in Quitman with regard to a dog bite. The complainant advised that while riding his bicycle, a dog came after him and bit his right shoes and pedal which caused him to fall. The dog's bite did not penetrate the complainant's shoe. The complainant received several abrasions on his knees, face and back as a result of the fall.
April 24th: Deputies were dispatched to FM 182 in Quitman with regard to a female subject screaming for help. While enroute, deputies saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was stopped and a female passenger jumped out screaming for help. The driver sped off and made a u-turn and came toward the deputies. Dispatch was notified that a vehicle with a white male driver was heading north on CR 1576 at a high rate of speed. The female passenger was visibly shaken and scared. She was released to EMS and the case is under investigation. A warrant for the arrest of Davis Allen Grimes was issued for evading arrest with a vehicle.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 4660 in Winnsboro with regard to a burglary. The complainant advised that he came to his residence and that unknown suspect(s) had entered the home and removed over $6,000 in household items. The case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched on a report of an assault on PR 6252 in Mineola. The complainant advised that she was assaulted by her daughter-in-law. Melissa Jane Blackwell was issued a citation for assault by contact. The complainant was struck on the left side of her face. There were no visible marks.
April 23rd: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2330 in Mineola on a report of a burglary of a vehicle. The complainant advised that unknown persons(s) had entered the unlocked vehicle and removed a purse from the car. The contents of the purse were left behind but the purse was taken. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to FM 779 in Quitman on a report of a burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had removed her purse from her unlocked vehicle. The purse was found in a ditch and returned to the owner. The suspect(s) left everything in the purse except the complainant's cell phone and money. The case is under investigation.

During the period, there were 73 males and 18 females at the Wood County Jail for an overall total of 91. The bookings numbered 29 and there were 23 releases.
April 22nd: Deputies met a complainant in the lobby of the sheriff's department with regard to a person trespassing on the complainant's property on FM 2966 in Quitman. Henry Earl Harper was issued a criminal trespass warning.
On the same date, deputies met a complainant in the lobby of the sheriff's department. The person advised that he either knocked his firearm (handgun) out of his truck or the firearm was stolen from his truck. He advised that he always kept the firearm under the driver's seat of his pickup. The case is under investigation.
April 21st: Deputies were dispatched to CR 4878 in Winnsboro with regard to a report of harassment. The complainant advised that his ex-wife keeps calling his home and making threatening statements. He advised if she calls to speak to her children, she becomes vulgar and makes threatening statements when she is told the children are not at home. The case is under investigation.
April 20th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2315 in Mineola on a report of stolen medication. The case is under investigation.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 2336 in Mineola. The complainant advised that an unknown white male attempted to break into her home. The case is under investigation.
Also on this date, deputies were dispatched to PR 8652 in Winnsboro. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) broke a window out of his vehicle. The vehicle was parked in the complainant's yard. The case is under investigation.
April 19th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 3440 in Hawkins with regard to a criminal trespass report. The complainant advised that suspects were coming onto their property on ATV's and were unwelcome. David Clark Keith was issued a criminal trespass warning.
April 18th: Deputies were dispatched to an accident at Holly Lake Ranch. On arrival, deputies saw a subject standing in the roadway. When they made contact, they find him to be unsteady on his feet, his eyes were bloodshot and he had a strong odor of alcohol. Cecil Fuller, Jr. was arrested for public intoxication.
On the same date, deputies were dispatched to CR 1841 in Yantis with regard to an assault. A complainant advised that he had been assaulted. Ashley Alexis Pylant was arrested for assault.
April 17th: Deputies were dispatched to CR 2231 in Mineola with regard to the burglary of a motor vehicle. The complainant advised that unknown suspect(s) had entered his unlocked vehicle and removed some medication. The case is under investigation.
April 16th: Deputies were dispatched to Hwy 80 east at Hawkins with regard to a stolen computer. The complainant advised that he loaned his computer to a friend and when the friend returned to his dorm to use the computer, unknown suspect(s) had taken the computer. The case is under investigation.
