Hawkins & School Board Elections
Coquat wins council seat;
Smith joins ISD board

The Hawkins City Council and the Hawkins Independent School District Board of Trustees each have a new member as a result of elections that took place Saturday, May 9.
Howard Coquat received 61 votes of the 79 cast in the race for a position-4 on the Hawkins City Council. Allen Holley received 11 votes and Ruth Regalado 7 in the only contested race for a seat on the council. Clara I. Kay and Dwayne Hickey both ran unopposed for seats they have held for several terms each. Hickey received 75 votes and Kay 66.
Clayton Atteberry, Crystal Rena Smith and Homer Scott Turner all sought election to three-year terms on the Hawkins ISD Board. Atteberry, an incumbent, received 80 votes and was re-elected to his seat. Smith, won the seat being vacated by current member Steven Holland with a total vote count of 94. Scott Turner garnered 49 votes.
Crystal Smith, who resides at 250 Paradise Lane in Hawkins, has lived in the school distirct for 22 years. She is a HUB Coordinator.
Clayton Atteberry, a Construction Contractor, lives at 269 FM-2659. He has resided within the district for 14 years.
