Walmart parking lot robber gets 20 years

On May 14th, William "Owen" Mayo, 34, of Mineola, pled guilty to aggravated robbery before the 402nd Judicial District Court in Wood County.
Judge Timothy Boswell assessed a 20-year prison sentence.
In October 2008, Mayo threatened and robbed an elderly woman with a crowbar in the Walmart parking lot in Mineola. He took her purse out of her shopping cart while she was loading groceries into her car.
Another Walmart shopper witnessed the woman in distress and saw Mayo leaving the parking lot in a red Ford F-150 pickup with a crowbar in the driver window. The shopper pursued Mayo by vehicle and eventually on foot across a cow pasture.
As Mayo was fleeing, he dropped the woman's purse while climbing over a fence. With the help to several citizens, after a lengthy pursuit, Mayo was apprehended and charged with aggravated robbery.
The case was investigated by Detective Chuck Hougton, Sgt. Tim Prince, Officer Guy McKee and Detective Lucky Bolden of the Mineola Police Department with the help of the Wood County Sheriff's Department.
The State's case was presented by Wood County Criminal District Attorney Jim Wheeler.
